Leave the M5 at junction 27 and follow the North Devon link road (A361) to Barnstaple. From Barnstaple continue along the A361 via the new bridge towards Braunton and Ilfracombe (signposted). Passing through Chivenor and Wrafton.
In the centre of Braunton village, turn left after 2nd set of traffic lights (the main cross road set) onto the B3231, signposted Saunton and Croyde. Continue along the B3231 coastal road to Croyde Village.
The village of Croyde sits directly on the North heritage coast of Devon and is due north of Barnstable. Looking directly across the Bristol Channel from Croyde Bay you can see Swansea. The bay itself is wide sheltered and safe for swimmers and surfers and the privately owned golden sanded beach is patrolled by lifesavers throughout the summer months, the RNLI patrol the area all year long.

The village much of it dated back to the 17th century and its surrounding area is a magical place with superb sandy beaches, the village itself is steeped in old-world charm, chocolate box cottages with thatched roofs and all echoing the bygone era feeling of life in Britain in the 30's and 40's, when things were easy going. From an historical prospective Croyde is part of the Braunton Hundred and falls within the deanery of nearby Barnstable.
Nowadays there has been a great input into the area by the young surfing community as apparently the waves are just right here along this stretch of coastline and there’s plenty of coastal footpaths for walkers and ramblers to explore, Baggy Point is approximately 5.5 miles away. There’s loads of sporting events organised on the beach as well in the sea. There area has three fantastic clean sandy beaches to choose from. All this has upgraded the area without spoiling the old. Today you can stay and eat in a huge variety of establishments in the area, and take part or keep to yourself in many outdoor activities. There are plenty of shops, a small supermarket to browse through and rental stores where visitors can hire out boats, canoes and surfboards etc. Lookout for the Manor pub in the villages where they serve a real Devonshire cream tea!
